Homemade Sunless Tanning Lotion

DIY homemade sunless tanning lotions are, in my opinion, the best way to do sunless tanning. They are actually good for your skin and body as opposed to the sunless tanning products sold in stores that are loaded with dangerous chemicals. They only cost a small amount to make them at home. Lastly, sunless tanning is better than tanning beds or getting UV rays outside, for the most part, because too much UV radiation can be bad for your skin. So it seems to be a win, win situation.

If you decide to try out an at home, do it yourself, sunless tanning lotion there are a few main recipes you can choose from. Choose one of the methods below or try all of them! Please leave comments if you have had experience with any of these homemade tanning lotions or if you know of a different recipe.

Super Moisturizing Homemade Tanning Lotion

  • Lanolin
  • Coconut Oil

 1. Heat three-quarters of a cup of water on the stove until it boils.
2. Add three black tea bags to the water and allow to steep for 20 minutes.
3. Pour one-quarter of a cup of lanolin, one-quarter of a cup of coconut oil and one-quarter of a cup of the brewed tea into a blender.
4. Mix the tanning cream base on low speed. Once blended, add the remaining tea into the blender.
5. Blend the mixture again and uncover it.
6. Add a half tsp. of coconut oil into the cream and stir.
7. Pour the mixture into a squeeze bottle.

Cocoa Powder Homemade Self Tanner

  • 1/3 cup Cocoa Powder (Unsweetened)
  • 1/2 cup Cocoa Butter Cream or 1/8 cup of your choice of oil
I found this recipe from a website called Mariasself.com and Maria said that she tried different variations of lotions and found that the cocoa butter mixed the best together. However if you choose, you can mix the cocoa powder with any lotion, unscented white lotion would be preferable. Also if you prefer to make an oil instead of a lotion, you can use almond oil, coconut oil or extra virgin olive oil.

Homemade Sunless Tanner with DHA
  • DHA
  • Hyaluronic acid
  • Water

Mix 20 to 24 granules of DHA, two pinches of the hyaluronic acid and 2 teaspoons of water or water-based lotion together. For best results mix this in a blender until smooth. If you don't have a blender then you can wisk by hand but the results aren't quite as good.
